It's July!?!?

It's July?  Anyone else still feel like it's March? I don't know where the first half of 2018 has gone to but then my last post was in April so time is moving faster than I can keep up with these days.  I'm slammed at my "day" job and it's not gonna let up and I'm doing a lot of yard work around my home but it takes time with these hot and humid days.  I'm only good for about 40 minutes when I just have to stop digging in the dirt because of the heat.  Still, I love the way my landscaping is beginning to come together and hopefully it will all be completed in another few months.

Saturdays are my treasure hunt day and I have been finding some really nifty pieces these last few weeks.

A stunning, Early American Pressed Glass (EAPG) pedestal celery called Adams but more popularly known as Square Panes, 1880s.

Oh, my knees are weak, found a marvelous antique brass oil lamp from France.  

Two for two?  This beauty has been electrified but I don't mind, I adore the decorative brass and will use this in my home.

Mid Century Holmegaard smoke glass decanter designed by Jacob Bang of Denmark.  Known as a Kluk Kluk (pinched) glass decanter. Originally held Holmegaard Danish brandy, these decanters are in demand with the Ikea generation.  

Vintage, seagreen, blow out glass grape cluster decanter. These are so much fun to decorate with or fill with your favorite wine.

Love these mid century silverplated champagne buckets. This was is by Sheridan and in marvelous condition. I love to use these as Christmas tree stands.

Stunning EAPG gold and ruby flash large, oval bowl. US Glass, this is called Delaware and was produced in 1899.

 Lovely 1890s, Riverside Glass Co., EAPG spooner.  Pattern:  Empress, clear with gold lustre trim.

Heisey Glass Pinwheel and Fan basket.  This bad boy is big and in perfect condition.

Be still my heart, my favorite colors are calling me.

This delightful 1960s pottery ashtray is too cha cha for words.  I've never been a smoker and have no use for ash trays but the colors are as seawitchy as you can get so I had to bring it home and use it to store my remotes.  

Can these little birds me anymore charming?  I will fill them with lavender talc and place in the guest bedroom for guests to sprinkle on their sheets.

And finally, a beautiful red and white embroidered on feed sack cloth quilt. This 1930s beauty is all hand pieced and embroidered. She has a faded section but I love it anyway.  

It's always fascinating to see what shows up in my area.  I can honestly say Florida is a grab bag of finds like no other state I have ever lived in.  This, of course, makes the hunt always interesting.

Easter Weekend Finds

Wishing everyone the blessings of Easter and hoping that the renewal of spring will bring peace and contentment to all.

Those doxie eyes, she was not pleased about wearing my latest acquisition, a faboosh Edwardian summer hat.

Most of Atlanta and its outlying communities shut down on Easter Sunday so I was busy running around on Saturday.  We had a damp and cloudy weekend so it was off to my favorite haunts.  

Started off with a visit to Antiques in Old Town, Lilburn and one my favorite dealers, Cheryl, whose Romantic Farmhouse space is dreamy had this lovely hat.  I had to have it and this gorgeous hat is a big one and I'm now trying to talk myself out of keeping it.

Stunning Battenberg lace parlor tablecloth, is another lovely piece from Romantic Farmhouse.  This is a keeper for me and I use them throughout my home.

A great pair of late Victorian lace up leather boots.  Still soft and wearable and with that coveted "witches" heel.  These will be in my Victorian space at the Buford, Queen of Hearts next weekend

Now that spring is in full swing, I begin preparing for summer holidays like Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day celebrations with lots of red, white and blue.

A sassy navy and white stripped, full brim hat is very 1950s.

Another vintage, patriotic red straw hat with shiny vinyl ribbon around the brim.  

 Swung by Curious Possessions in Snellville and found this pretty vintage straw hat.  These will all be in my main space at the Buford Queen of Heart in May.

Delightful "War Babies" by Will Rannells circa 1917, puppies wearing bandanas print in original frame. This sweetie will be in my main space at the Buford Queen of Hearts Antiques & Interiors.

 Gorgeous Van Briggle, blue matt crescent moon pottery vase came home with me and will stay for a while.  I always get weak in the knees with this color.

I'm a fool for antiques oil lamps and use them all year long. This gorgeous base is a huge piece and slightly sun purpled with the base in immaculate condition. Now I'm on the lookout for pieces to make it a working oil lamp. Found this beauty at one of my favorite antique haunts, Vintage Village.

Now it was off to a few local Goodwills and thrift shops for more treasure hunting and it wrought an eclectic group of finds.

Darling, vintage lingerie hamper with a barkcloth lid.  This beauty is much smaller than it's cousin the standard size clothes hamper and is small enough to put on a shelf or counter top.  A thrift store find, this is the first small one that I have come across in decades.

Lovely, silverplated serving dish is in like new condition.  I can't wait to serve guests specialty recipes with it.

Sweet pair of turn of the century items, a child's cup with hugging girls and a milk glass butter dish with pretty pink roses painted on it.  It always amazes me what you can find out there.

Bonjour.  Nice set of vintage, French language lessons on records.  These will be in my main space next week.

 Sweet mid century beaded bag from Hong Kong.  Do you use them, I do and they are great for holding your smart phone.

 

A delightful Goodwill find, this lovely plate is handpainted and marked Bavarian on the back. 

Early American Pressed Glass is beginning to see a wider demand with collectors.  With so many patterns to choose from you can often find fantastic pieces for a few dollars.   This medium size compote has a sassy topper and is now in my personal collection.

Lovely early cut glass olive server.  This is a smaller piece, about 6 inches in length and has lots of sparkle.

Pair of gorgeous cut glass water goblets from the late Victorian era.  These will be in my Victorian space in April.

And finally, my last acquisition of the Saturday hunting trip...

gorgeous, early 1900s hand pieced and quilted quilt is rich with calico fabrics and a feed sack back.  Many of the calico fabrics in the squares have shredded rendering this a cutter quilt, but it is so lovely, I will display it until I decide how to use it.

It was a fantastic Saturday for treasure hunting and now I have to prepare most of them for my spaces for resale.    As for my back room cleanout, I am nearly completed with the second room. As soon as the pollen mess washes away and the temps go back up, it is on to the garage next.  So, wishing everyone a lovely week and blessings to you and those you love.  SeaWitch

Fifty Shades of Fun

A gorgeous Atlanta weekend made for lots of fun hunting for treasure, making costumes for grandchildren and receiving a surprise all the way from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.   On Saturday I hit a few of my favorite haunts and found some great treasure.

 Nice antique Bible dated 1917 and a pair of leather bound books from the late 1890s.

 Nice, American Primitive treenware masher.  Has that marvelous bleached patina.

 One of my favorite finds on Saturday.   Fantastic antique, hand penned sampler of a Calligrapher in antique frame.  I love everything about this from the chippy frame, the ragged parchment and broken glass and the purity of the elegant script. Circa 1880-1900s

Lucky enough to find another marvelous Victorian quilt. This crazy quilt is filled with rich velvets and silks with beautiful embroidery and hand piecing.  

Extremely rare, child’s WW2 play helmet – Commando Junior.   Machine pressed paper mache, painted “OD” (olive drab) green, it still has the original neck string, although a shoe lace has been added from lots of play time.  May be a Little Orphan Annie WW2 piece as part of her Junior Commando’s war effort for children. toys like this didn’t often last from hard play and usually made their way to the trash heap or burn barrel.  Circa 1943

 Nice Towle silverplated compote server in Chippendale pattern.

 Adore vintage mercury glass Christmas pieces and I found this huge beauty at a yard sale on Sunday for $2.00. 

Fifty shades of just too cool.  Nifty portable 45rmp player still runs.

Believe it or not, this is a goodwill find.  Nifty Victorian brush/comb box is walnut and has a pretty pattern on the front.

 

Gold brocade and lame thread Anglican vestments.  Perfect for a Halloween costume or use as part of a St. Nicholas robe over the Christmas holidays.

 Halloween mantle charm.

 Fifty shades of fun this Halloween with these thigh high boots and sequined dresses with a silver mask make this the hot costume look for this year thanks to the best seller, Fifty Shades of Grey.

 I have the wicker mannequin loaded with big, metal spiders, a sword and helmet.

I printed silhouettes on dictionary sheets and framed for quick and unique Halloween decorative elements.

 Halloween is everywhere in my main booth on Queen Street at the Buford Queen of Hearts Antiques.  My Halloween has really flown out of the booth this year.

And finally, a facebook friend was visiting friends and family in Lancaster County, PA and following a trip to Roots Farmer's Market, they carried back produce to include the famous neck pumpkins that make the best pumpkin piece. To gild this lily, a bag of freshly picked peppers from their garden came with it.

 So in between sewing costumes I will be preparing pumpkin this week.  Wishing everyone fifty shades of joy. Sea Witch
